How sweet the sound! Born in the anti-war counterculture movement of 1970 on the Northwestern
University campus, Amazingrace Coffeehouse and the collective that ran it presented Music, Food, Film,
Posters, Poetry, Politics, and Theater in a variety of venues from 1971-1981. Booking local and national
acts, and despite being located "across the line" in Evanston, Amazingrace repeatedly won "Chicago's Best" music venue awards.
Amazingrace remains legendary among both performers and audience
members as an extraordinary space where magical moments were the rule rather than the exception.
Over the past three decades Amazingrace has continued to present the occasional show and reunion
celebrations. |
